D.O. Saimaa and Saimaa Academy of Gastronomy – Network development and learning project

Food tourism as the main tourism attraction of the Lake Saimaa region

The aim of the project is to make food tourism the main touristic attraction in the Lake Saimaa region in a sustainable way. This will be achieved by developing and linking the D.O. Saimaa network to tourism, by productising food tourism, by increasing expertise through the Saimaa Academy of Gastronomy learning network and by research knowledge supporting food tourism. The project's activities are divided into three work packages, which together form an integrated research, learning and development & innovation package.

The project is a joint project of the University of Helsinki's Ruralia Institute, the National Library of Finland and the Mikkeli Region Tourism Association (MSM ry), funded by the South Savo Regional Council / Just Transition Fund (JTF), the Mikkeli region municipalities and the project implementing organisations through self-financing.
